May 2023

We had over 20 people present and 27 models on display at the May meeting.

We opened the May meeting with announcements from the PAXCON Planning Committee regarding the status of preparations for the show.  Once the updates were covered, we moved right into sharing models!  The theme for May was “Macross Mania” (any sci fi robot, vehicle, etc.)

Phil Allen brought three finished models starting with this 1/100 Valkyrie w/ gear down, built ~30 years ago

1/100 scratch built “monster”, homemade decals, no machining, all hand made

1/350 resin Macross enemy scout ship

Phil also brought two models in work, including this 1/350 Valkyrie

Gerry Whiteside’s theme submission is this Macross 1/72 Hasegawa YF-19

Joe Hegedus brought out his spotless Hasegawa 1/48 Lear Jet

Carl Eckmyer showed a pair of models starting with the 1/20 Flege (machinenkrieger) WIP (left), and the Tamiya 1/35 Semovente (right).

Collin Tatusko brought three models, starting with this Roden 1/48 T-28 Trojan WIP

…and this 1/48 Hasegawa A6M2-N Rufe on which the base warped and he will have to re-pour the water surface,

Collin’s last model is this 1/72 Revell (reboxed from Hasegawa) B-25J Mitchell Gunship

Andy White shared his continued progress on this 1/48 Hasegawa F-8E Crusader commemorating the first shoot down of a MiG-21 with a Sidewinder (flown by Dick Bellinger). This model is for the Nats “MiG Killers” theme.

Club President Tim Holland had two models to share, including a theme Hasegawa 1/72 YF-19 Macross

and this Sword 1/72 F3D-N Skynight, also destined for the MiG Killers at Nats.

Doc’s love of rare models continues with this Copper State Models 1/35 Renault automitrailleuse guntruck

and this nicely engineered 1/48 Promodeler Ju-52 Tanteju

Doc’s final model(s) are these War Hammer fantasy figures.

Dan Yakel brought three subjects starting with this 1/144 Bandai Gundam robot

Not satisfied with the painting instructions, Dan’s 1/72 Hasegawa Vertec now wears a spurious paint scheme

and back to his primary genre, Dan brought this Meng 1/35 Leopard 2A4 as a WIP.

Vince Mankowski has a full score of Osprey models to build.  Progress has started with this 1/48 Testors 1988 V-22 model finished as a YV-22 Osprey (FSD Ship #3)

Vince also built this 1991 1/72 Testors rebox of the Italeri V-22 as a YV-22 Osprey (FSD ship #3).  Both scales were built together with custom decals made by a friend.

Andy Frill brought a pair of models as well including this 1/35 C-RAM (CIWS with missiles)

and this more mainstream Academy 1/48 F-4B Phantom II for the MiG Killers theme at Nats

Wrapping up Show-n-Tell was Jake Kidd and his WIP 1/48 Monogram B-17G Flying Fortress.

The June 2023 theme is our club Anniversary.  We will be doing “Carrier Landings” using scale models, a plywood carrier deck, and a 40′ flying wire.  I hope to take and post some videos of the carrier landings for you in our next newsletter.  I will at least capture some photos to share of the event!
