September 2023

25 members present
27 models on the tables

Carl Eckmeyer: 1/48 Revell AH-64D Long Bow Apache, and 1/48 Monogram A-1H Skyraider.

I forget whose two figures these were; my apologies!  I *think* these were also Carl’s models.

Rick Weeks brought several models including this 1/72 P-47D Razorback.

Rick Weeks’ 1/25 Boss Mustang Fastback.

Something Rick painted for one of his kids.

Rick Weeks’ Mad Max car at the start of the movie…

…and Rick Weeks’ Mad Max car at the end of the movie!  🙂

Don’t you just know that Phil Allen is ALWAYS coming up with something unique?  Here’s some 1:1 scale shells to go with his scratch-built cannon on the scratch-built RC boat.  INSANITY!

Before moving to PA, Bill Brierton got started on this American LaFrance 900 Pumper fire engine.

Carey Marrinen is still “figuring” out some modeling and brought this Australian WWII Coastwatcher in 54mm this month.  Nicely done, Carey!

I *think* David Fuller brought this Hawkeye kit he just got started.  If is was someone else, my apologies!

Steve Luchianetti brought a couple of Vietnam-themed models for the meeting including this 1/72 F-105D Thunderchief with the SA-2 Guideline SAM missile on a launcher behind it.

Steve also brought this 1/72 F-4C Phantom II displayed in flight for the theme!

Jonathan Wright brought this little Polish model of the RWD-7 (or was it RWD-11?) that he found for like $1 in a bag during recent model swapping.  The decals, despite being some 40 years old, went on surprisingly well and he turned out a really nice little model!

Steve Workman brought this Broken Flower… I mean, the “in work” Hasegawa 1/72 Ki-48 Lily to share.

Scott Samo wipped out this 1/32 Fw190D-9 paint mule to show his approach to preparing the surface for applying decals.

Then Scott shared his current “in work” project, a Hobby Boss 1/48 Su22 Fitter-K in a really cool camouflage scheme!

I believe this was Paul Warren’s current WIP, a 1/48 F-14A Tomcat, though I forget the manufacturer.

Chris Thout had three models on hand, all nicely done.  The first is this 1/48 F/A-18E Super Hornet in VFA-97 livery.

Chris’ second model is this really neat 1/72 F-5E Tiger II in USMC VMFT-401 markings and a wrap around blue scheme.

Chris’ final display model is this nice 1/72 S-3A Viking (“Hoover”).

Nate Swift showed this clean Henschel tank buster with prop blurs mounted in an inflight pose.  Very nice!

Kirk Vonnevier showed this clean little A-4 Skyhawk, one of my favorites!

Gerry Whiteside had two models, the first was this great looking OH-6A Cayuse “Loach” helicopter.

Gerry’s second model was another good looking subject, the 1/72 OV-10A Bronco from Academy.

May 2023

We opened the May meeting with announcements from the PAXCON Planning Committee regarding the status of preparations for the show.  Once the updates were covered, we moved right into sharing models!  The theme for May was “Macross Mania” (any sci fi robot, vehicle, etc.)

Phil Allen brought three finished models starting with this 1/100 Valkyrie w/ gear down, built ~30 years ago

1/100 scratch built “monster”, homemade decals, no machining, all hand made

1/350 resin Macross enemy scout ship

Phil also brought two models in work, including this 1/350 Valkyrie

Gerry Whiteside’s theme submission is this Macross 1/72 Hasegawa YF-19

Joe Hegedus brought out his spotless Hasegawa 1/48 Lear Jet

Carl Eckmyer showed a pair of models starting with the 1/20 Flege (machinenkrieger) WIP (left), and the Tamiya 1/35 Semovente (right).

Collin Tatusko brought three models, starting with this Roden 1/48 T-28 Trojan WIP

…and this 1/48 Hasegawa A6M2-N Rufe on which the base warped and he will have to re-pour the water surface,

Collin’s last model is this 1/72 Revell (reboxed from Hasegawa) B-25J Mitchell Gunship

Andy White shared his continued progress on this 1/48 Hasegawa F-8E Crusader commemorating the first shoot down of a MiG-21 with a Sidewinder (flown by Dick Bellinger). This model is for the Nats “MiG Killers” theme.

David Fuller brought the finished 1/72 Airfix P-40B Flying Tiger; Special Hobby P-40E Warhawk; Hasegawa P-40N Warhawk models he has shown for the last couple of meetings in various stages of completion.

Johnathan Wright brought another “Not Another Zero” project in the form of the 1/72 Fujimi J1N1-S Gecko (Irving)

Club President Tim Holland had two models to share, including a theme Hasegawa 1/72 YF-19 Macross

and this Sword 1/72 F3D-N Skynight, also destined for the MiG Killers at Nats.

Patrick ‘Doc’ Haugh contributed four models to our club discussion starting with his “Not Another Zero” project by Fine Molds; a 1/72 Yokasuka R2Y-1 Zeiun

Doc’s love of rare models continues with this Copper State Models 1/35 Renault automitrailleuse guntruck

and this nicely engineered 1/48 Promodeler Ju-52 Tanteju

Doc’s final model(s) are these War Hammer fantasy figures.

Dan Yakel brought three subjects starting with this 1/144 Bandai Gundam robot

Not satisfied with the painting instructions, Dan’s 1/72 Hasegawa Vertec now wears a spurious paint scheme

and back to his primary genre, Dan brought this Meng 1/35 Leopard 2A4 as a WIP.

Vince Mankowski has a full score of Osprey models to build.  Progress has started with this 1/48 Testors 1988 V-22 model finished as a YV-22 Osprey (FSD Ship #3)

Vince also built this 1991 1/72 Testors rebox of the Italeri V-22 as a YV-22 Osprey (FSD ship #3).  Both scales were built together with custom decals made by a friend.

and this more mainstream Academy 1/48 F-4B Phantom II for the MiG Killers theme at Nats

Wrapping up Show-n-Tell was Jake Kidd and his WIP 1/48 Monogram B-17G Flying Fortress.

The June 2023 theme is our club Anniversary.  We will be doing “Carrier Landings” using scale models, a plywood carrier deck, and a 40′ flying wire.  I hope to take and post some videos of the carrier landings for you in our next newsletter.  I will at least capture some photos to share of the event!
