        Hi all!

Glad you have a forum going…Been a while since I made a meeting, but would like to share projects I have been working on.  I’ll drop them slowly as I don’t want to overhwhelm the forum…and being maybe the only car builder, maybe interest in my projects not that big.  I have done a few ships though and will post pics of them eventually.

First up is a 53 Ford I badly botched the paint job….so made it a rusty survivor cruiser.  Made lemonade out of that one!

OK, there’s no edit function on the original post, and hotlinking my pics doesn’t work here…guess I’ll use the embedded pic hosting from here on out.

Thanks for trying Tim, This board just doesn’t seem to tolerate hot links. I run a board on Boardhost and it links youtube videos and lets me hotlink pics from http://www.postimages.org, which is a fantastic free pic hosting site!

                      Joe,

hotlinks work, just embed them. What it won’t do is then pull the picture from that other site and embed the photo. Photos have to be uploaded.

however…it’s on my todo list to figure out how to embed them directly, regardless of source.

                      Tim

Nice ’53 Vickie!  Don’t worry, you’re not the only car guy in the club.  I’ve got a bunch of those ’53 Victorias in my stash as well, both convertible and hardtop.  Mine are typically done up as shiny show cars though. I’d love to see more of your work.

                        Thanks!

Yeah I like ‘em shiny too…I used to spend hours wetsanding and buffing, but massively cut my time by wetsanding with 2000 grit, then polish with Tamiya Polish and a polishing wheel attached to a Dremel.

Here’s a few more for now. I usually spend a lot of time on the engine compartment, adding my own wires and hoses.

Also…Here’s my process pics on making a vinyl top on a car. I used Scotch 3M blue painters tape and then painted it black with acrylic. I made this model over 2 years ago, and the top looks like I just did it…no cracking or peeling. The tape makes a VERY realistic vinyl texture!

The vinyl top looks great!  I know of another guy that uses textured spray paint and that looks pretty good as well.

I also hate polishing paint.  I have spent years trying working on my airbrushing technique to try and eliminate having to polish.  I got pretty good at it with Model Master paints, and then I switched to 2K clears and it changed my life.  It is so easy now to get a mirror smooth finish.

Here is my ’53 Vickie hardtop that I finished last year:

Very nice! After years of custom airbrushing bikes I came to hate all the hours holding one. I rattle can everything now. I can wetsand and polish a model in under an hour.

If you’re bored I also have an online gallery of many (but nowhere near all) of the models I built.

Mostly cars, some ships, but no airplanes…I have over 80 RC planes and most are stuffed in the attic because they take up too much damn room.

The first 2 pics are of a slot car layout I built that I tore down and now a model RR is in it’s place. But that’s another day…lol

Lot of nice builds you have there.  I see a bunch of builds that I have sitting in the stash waiting to be built!  Nice to see I’m not the only one that has a “Hobby Problem”.  My slot car track is 1/32, but I don’t have a permanent setup.  I also have a bunch of RC airplane stuff, but they are mostly balsa kits waiting to be built.  I used to be big into N Scale trains as well, but I got rid of most of my stuff when I graduated from college and moved out here.  I warned my wife that if our son develops even a slight interest in trains, it wouldn’t take much for me to jump right back in.

Have you ever been to one of the Maryland Automotive Modelers Association meetings?  Great group of guys up there as well.  I try to make it to a few meetings a year.

Hi Dave! I’m currently building a 1:32 slot track right now! On top of a pool table I never use anymore. On top of blue foam board it sits 5.5 ft x 11 ft. Currently laying track but have already got 30 cars…yikes! My track is Scalextric mostly because of tighter radius track, but happy with my choice. Deciding factor was this starter set that had a cool 70 Camaro and 69 Mustang. added a lot of track of course….I plan to make it with full scenery. My favorite cars are Pioneer…They have great street cars plus some as kits you paint and assemble. Got a cool General Lee! 2nd favorite is Scalextric…especially the Batmobile, Knight Rider and if you look on Amazon right now, they have New vintage-era NASCAR Tbirds and Monte Carlos for only $30 a car!!! I got all six cars…lol. I only have one Carrera but also have two actual vintage Auto Art Mustangs becuase they are identical to my car including the paint color.

So far my leanings are street cars, with vintage NASCAR 2nd favorite. Best prices on cars overall I found on http://www.RCSuperstore.com. Also great shipping. Many older cars bought on eBay and even the used cars looked brand new! The detail on the Auto Art and Pioneer cars are staggering, rivalling die cast!

Also, if you are interested in trains Anyrail6 is a phenominal track planner. My HO layout has 23 remote switches and magnetic decouplers…

Here’s the online gallery of my layout….
